While thousands of Yellow Vests took part in the May Day rally three days earlier, turnout was noticeably lower on Saturday, with the Interior Ministry estimating a total of 3,600 protesters throughout France and only 1,000 in Paris. Tens of thousands have marched in the streets of France every Saturday since November 2018 for a variety of grievances ranging from taxes on fuel to income inequality.
